POETRY AND PEOPLE

Since childhood days of nursery rhymes and simple poems, there has always been a people connection with these verses. Family recollections of Irish lullabies and sharing the early memorization of poems in school created a link of poetry.

Later, from the first poetic lines that I wrote to the study of classic poets, I discovered that there was a voice to poetry.

That voice is varied and so individualistic. Some of the voices that called out to me in their lines included: Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, Edna St.Vincent Millay, Carol Shields and so many others.

Writing poetry, for me, has been a voyage of discovery. Finding a poetic voice of my own has been shaped by the poets I have studied.

It was also influenced by a workshop series with a Professor/author/poet who engaged us in writing, looking at things from a different perspective. As a young Mom, taking an evening out to focus on writing was such a positive and empowering step. It left a huge impact on me as a poet writer. As well, I met a group of like minds, writers on the verge of moving forward as wordsmiths. I, especially, was so glad to meet a woman who has been an inspiration as a poet and a true spirit of the Earth.

A ROSE FOR POETS!

More recently, with the connectivity of social media through the internet, I have met a whole network of writers–freelance and poets–who have inspired me. Through blogs, websites, FB, Twitter, Google, it has been a wonderful experience to share poems, posts, comments, smiles and encouragement. It is an enriching development, for sure.

In this National Poetry Month, I give a big shout out to all those writerly voices!

A big pink rose of thanks!
