August! The nights are colder, already! Autumn is on its way!

Thoughts turn to final summer vacation plans and school readiness.

Fall housecleaning also comes to mind. Yes, I know that most people focus on Spring housecleaning but it seems to me that Fall is just as valid.

After a summer’s worth of comings and goings, usually there is a need to refresh everything.

Also, it is a great time to rethink clothes, furniture, household items. It is also a perfect time to act in a “green” direction with the Rs–reduce, reuse, recycle.

With grown-up children moving on to college, university, careers, they often need a second-hand couch or dishes that are packed away in a box. This is the time to share!

Community  groups are often looking for donations of winter items–coats, mittens, boots. If you have extra, gently-used winter clothes, donate them to one of these groups.

Along with these actions, you can also reuse some other materials. Newspapers can be recycled into green bin inserts. I wrote about this at .

Host a book swap with some of your neighbours and friends! Gather a few autumn reads!

Fall housecleaning can be a renewing time for all. Go for it!

Think twice before you buy or throw away! Think Green!

  1. I always tend to do both spring and fall cleaning…I think, when fall comes, I know my work schedule is about to get really crazy and I want the house to be clean and organized before that happens.
