BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2012

February is mostly associated with Valentine’sDay.

FEBRUARY MOON SO BRIGHT!

However, it is also the month to celebrate Black History Month.

Celebrate is the key word here, I think. For a few weeks, awareness is increased after centuries of inadequate inclusion.

For me, as a poet, Langston Hughes was one of the earliest influences on my writing and outlook. What better advice to give than, “Hold fast to dreams.…” ?

Later, when I discovered Maya Angelou, I just knew the power of words and the insight that can come from a poet author such as the amazing writer.

On a more recent note, I discovered Ian Williams, a contemporary poet who wrote some powerful poems in You Know Who You Are.

If you are looking for some winter reads, check out some title by these poets as you celebrate Black History Month.
