Hallowe’en prompt at Imaginary Garden With Real Toadswas truly inspiring!
Have a safe & happy Hallowe’en, All!
Here is my response to the prompt!
Ghostly quote: Some one came knocking (from poem by Walter de la Mare)
On Hallowe’en night
After ghouls and goblins had given us a fright
Towards mid of the night I heard it
That sound on the door.
The newspaper came early?
Just tossed on the floor?
I rushed down the stairs
Unlocked the door
Not a sign of the raven
No bump in the night
Just a raccoon at the garbage
On Hallowe’en night!

I can handle the concept of a raccoon in the night … as long as Mr. Raccoon leaves the neighborhood kitties alone.

Raccoons are so clever. Do they follow a calendar? Not sure but their timing is impeccable!

I had to laugh at the thought of the newspaper coming early. In all the years I spent in the newspaper business, I never heard of such a thing!
I like the idea of your masked visitor. There are no raccoons where I live now, but at least there are deer who come in the winter to munch the frozen fruit on our ornamental crabapple tree.
Enjoyed your poem very much.

No sign of the raven… 🙂 Our minds do conjure up much scarier things, don’t they.
