Fortunate to have grown up in a province that is blessed with numerous trees and forests, I find it hard to imagine living without an evergreen or maple or apple tree nearby.

I am delighted to see that trees are the focus of The Poetry Park prompt* this week. After thinking back on some of my writing and photos, I realize that trees have figured prominently in these efforts.

Also, in my favourite titles by favourite poets and authors, the subject of trees has drawn me to many of their works.

That led me to focus on one of my favourite trees for responding to this prompt. Here is the poem I wrote.

Limerick on Birch Tree

There once was a birch tree so tall.

The leaves from its branches would fall

yellow bits on green lawn

backyard covered by dawn

White birch is the best tree of all.
