Some people are saying that September has arrived; in fact, we have skipped the month of August!

Well, I have to disagree.

There is a tinge of autumn in the air but I also sense the traditional character of August in southern Ontario.

Shortly after the long weekend, that shift towards fall is evident to all who have scheduled vacations or find themselves monitoring crops and gardens for harvesting.

That being said, there is a definite bright side to August, late summer, found in the perennials that bide their time to bloom in the latter part of our warmest season.

This week, I was thrilled to see some amazing black-eyed Susans blooming along with some aubergine hollyhocks when visiting family.

The Susans were also very photogenic so I am including a photo along with a haiku inspired by them.

Enjoy these days of late summer! You might even see a meteor or two at night!
