AUGUST RED AND GOLD!

Seeing red here on the deck! It’s harvest time in my container garden!

Thought I would post a photo of some pickings — cherry tomatoes, and rather spicy, sweet banana peppers.

August is definitely a winding down month for summer here in southern Ontario but the weather has been great for enjoying these numbered days.

Time to savour so many things: a read by the pool, catch a movie or two, listen to some tunes, see a play, to name a few. I have made my way through this list and will be ready to add some more for the last couple of weeks in August.

  • Book — I bought a red-covered paperback, Outlander, just for a summer read.
  • Movie and Music — Saw Country Strong movie with Gwyneth Paltrow and an amazing new-to-me, actor singer, Garrett Hedlund. Singing several songs in the movie, his voice is like a newer version of Kris Kristofferson as he sings several lyrical/danceable tunes in the movie.
  • Play –Caught a King Lear performance at Stratford. Colm Feore aces the title role in this tragedy.

Also, I took some time to watch the amazing super moon! Wonderful to see the impact of this golden moonlight on the landscape.

What a wonderful August world! 🙂

Have a great week, All!

PERENNIALS A-BLOOM!

June flowers are bustin’ out all over here in southwestern Ontario!

Shasta daisies, almost decimated two winters ago, have started to bloom. Yellow day lilies are bright spots in the perennial mix.

Also, the first rose of summer has made an appearance!

Each summer, the perennial garden is an ongoing delight as blooms come and go.

My favourite, though, has to be the lavender. This perennial herb is pretty to see as it waves in the breeze; also, it brings such a sweet scent to passers-by and to our house each time a window or door opens.

IMG_2506 Today is a beautiful sunny day in June, so much for which to be thankful and to appreciate in the natural beauty that surrounds us.

This week, I have had a poem published in the current issue of Halcyon. If you are looking for a summer read, just click on Halcyon.

As the week is winding down, hope all is well with everyone.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup series is progressing. Flags from many countries are waving from car windows here in our community. This event seems to draw the world closer. Who will win?

Have a great weekend, all!
