CARE FOR POND!

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Careful.”

In my community, there is a gem that requires care — a natural pond! The pond is surrounded by trees, grasses and shrubs, skirted by a natural area and a stand of mature trees, criss-crossed by walking paths.

It is a focal point for many walks through the neighbourhood. People of all ages congregate by the pond to see the ducks and birds that nest nearby. A blue heron frequents the pond along with a whole crew of mallard ducks.

There are a few rocks for sitting and a wooden bench beneath the shade trees.

This pond reflects the change of seasons, providing ice for skating and hockey in the winter, restful waters in the summer.

In a recent conversation with one of my neighbours, we shared a few memories of the pond’s place in our community and we commiserated on its present state, the fact that it does require some care. Ironically, in the same week, the pond was subject of a local news article .  The city has a maintenance schedule for water resources, including our wonderful pond. Hopefully, the pond will be designated as a priority to maintain its environment. Some extra care is needed!

(EXTRA)ORDINARY AUTUMN!

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “(Extra)ordinary.”

When I looked out the window, I was amazed to see this autumn art on the backyard pool. It seemed like a good fit for this week’s prompt!
